Chapter 1: Citizenship (شہریت)
This chapter explains what citizenship means and the rights and responsibilities that come with it, using examples like Quaid-e-Azam and Abdul Sattar Edhi as responsible citizens. It highlights the importance of Pakistan’s 1973 Constitution, including citizens’ rights such as free and compulsory education for children aged 5 to 16 and the right to vote. It covers weather, climate and global warming, along with natural disasters like floods and earthquakes and safety measures against them. The chapter ends with population growth and population density, using Sindh as a worked example.

This chapter defines goods and services and explains the difference between public and private goods, along with the roles of consumers and producers. It covers inflation and its types, scarcity and its causes, and how taxes and loans help the government provide public services. Students also learn about international trade, exports and imports, Pakistan’s transportation network, entrepreneurship, and the evolution of money from the barter system to coins, paper notes and the State Bank of Pakistan.
Important Questions:
- What is the difference between goods and services? Goods can be seen and touched, while services are actions performed for others in exchange for payment.
- What causes inflation? A continuous rise in the price of goods and services, caused by increased production cost or demand exceeding supply.
