PECTAA has reduced the Biology Class 9 syllabus for the 2027 board exams under its Smart Syllabus, also called the Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP). Below is every topic, box, table and exercise item removed from each chapter of the current Biology-9 textbook, followed by the 2027 paper pattern.

Paper pattern for 2027
Written paper: 60 marks (Objective 12 + Subjective 48). Time: 2 hours (Objective 15 minutes + Subjective 1 hour 45 minutes). Practical marks are separate.

The number in brackets is how many short questions come from that chapter. Each short question carries 2 marks.
Long questions (18 marks)
Three long questions are given, 9 marks each, and you attempt two (2 × 9 = 18 marks, which completes the 60-mark total). Part (a) carries 5 marks and part (b) 4 marks.

How to use this for preparation
- Skip chapter 11, the glossary, all key points and all inquisitive questions.
- Chapter 1 gives four short questions in Q2, the most from any single chapter in that question.
- Long questions come only from chapters 2, 3, 6, 7, 9 and 10. Chapters 1, 4, 5 and 8 appear in MCQs and short questions only.
- Chapters 9 and 10 give two MCQs each and each has a long-question part, so prepare them fully.
