PCTB Is Now PECTAA: Where to Find Punjab Textbooks in 2026

If you have tried to open the old Punjab Textbook Board website recently, you may have found it offline. That is because the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) no longer works as a separate body. Its work is now done by PECTAA, the Punjab Education Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority. This page explains what changed and where students, parents and teachers can now find the official Punjab textbooks.

What is PECTAA?

PECTAA is the authority that the Punjab government created to bring three education bodies under one roof:

  • PCTB, the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board, which developed and published textbooks
  • QAED, the Quaid-e-Azam Academy for Educational Development, which trained teachers
  • PEC, the Punjab Examination Commission, which ran assessments

PECTAA now handles the curriculum, the official textbooks, teacher training and assessment for schools in Punjab. Its official website is pectaa.edu.pk.

Where are the official Punjab textbooks now?

PECTAA publishes the e-books on the Curriculum & Compliance page of its website. The books themselves are stored on the board’s official Google Drive, the same Drive that PCTB used before. The list covers Pre-I to Class 12, including Matric Tech books and practical notebooks.

On Freebooks.pk, every Punjab textbook page links to these official files. Buttons marked “PECTAA Official Copy” open the file from the board’s own Google Drive. Freebooks.pk does not host these files.

What is new for 2026-27?

  • Class 10: a new set of textbooks for the 2026-27 session (English, Urdu, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science and Pakistan Studies).
  • Class 12: new textbooks dated 27 August 2026 (English, Urdu, Pakistan Studies, Physics, Mathematics, Biology and Computer Science).
  • Class 9: updated prints of Physics, Chemistry (Urdu medium) and Biology (Urdu medium), and a new Computer and Entrepreneurship book.
  • Class 11: a revised Urdu book dated 15 October 2026.
  • Class 1 to 5: new 2026 copies of most books.

Where a new edition exists, our textbook pages now show it first, with the earlier edition kept below for students who still use it.

Smart Syllabus 2027

On 6 November 2026 PECTAA notified a reduced “Smart Syllabus” for Class 9 and Class 11 under its Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP), for the 2027 annual examinations of all Punjab boards. It lists the chapters and topics that are included, along with pairing schemes and model papers. News reports said the Class 10 and 12 smart syllabus would follow, and that the Computer Science smart syllabus for Classes 9 and 11 was expected later in November. Always check the official notification on the PECTAA website.

Do I need to buy new books?

Follow what your school and board tell you. If your school has moved to the new edition, use the new book, because chapters and exercises can be different. If you are not sure, ask your teacher which edition your class uses.
